AS Media Trip

On thursday 27th November, we went to BBC 21cc for the second time, to finish off filming and editing. Firstly, we had to interview people and ask them question related to the filming we had done the previous day. I was working with Katie, Maya and Kwame, i was on Sound, Maya filmed and Katie and Kwame were the interviewers.

Once we done this, we had to edit the filming, we had to split up to 2 different groups of our groups, so me and Katie worked together and Maya and Kwame worked together. Me and Katie edited the interview filming; Maya and Kwame edited the alien abduction footage.

When the whole classed finished editing, all of the footage we had captured was put into one film and was shown as a news report.

BBC Lighting Workshop

On friday, me and the rest of the class went to BBC, 21CC in White City. Here we met and spoke to two directors, one who specialized in lighting. We first watched some of their work, with examples such as; music videos, documentaries and art exhibition video. Then we began the light workshop and we were shown the different types of lights and angles. We also looked at different coloured gels and reflectors, which creates different moods depending on the colours.

Before lunch, we went into groups that we chose, and we're given a task to do, we had to create and film a scene out of 4 different categories, Gangsters HQ, Alien Abduction, News Report and a Real Life Event. My group which was me, Katie, Kwame and Maya, had to do Alien Abduction.

Reflection on filming 5 shot sequence

When filming the 5 shot sequence, i was in a group with Maya and Enshell. We had to base our filming on receiving our exam results, the aim was to use a number of different shots and camera movement. Our first shot was we and Maya walking up the stairs, with results in hand, and this was a birds eye shot and panning us walking up stairs. The second shot was a medium to close-up shot of us walking up the top of the stairs, we also zoomed out as we got closer to the camera. The third shot was me and Maya walking away from the camera, with use of a medium shot, and a slight zoom in. For our 4th shot, it was me and Maya opening our results, the shot was a close-up, with a track movement use, to follow us into a different room. The final shot was me consoling Maya, as he got bad results and this was also a tracking movement to a different room, but a zoom was also used, to go from a long shot to a medium shot.

The filming was very useful as it was our first attempt at filming, and gave us more of an understanding to different shot types and movements. Other things i learnt during our time filming was not to film in front of windows, with sunlight shining through. All together it was a helpful task, which gave us more of an understanding.

Video Work

In my media lesson on the 16th of September, we had to vote out of 3 choices that i and the rest of the students had decided on, the one we decided to use was 'Getting exam results'. We were then put into groups of 3, i was with Maya and Enshell. We were all also given a camera to film our work. We used certain frames e.g. Birds eye, long shot etc. At first Enshell was filming me and Maya, walking up the stairs with a birds eye view, with our exam results in hand. Then we had a long shot of me and Maya still walking up the stairs. We then used a close-up shot of Maya and me walking past the camera. The next shot was of us opening our exam results, the frame used was a medium shot, this means just showing our upper body, we used this to show Maya's frustration in the scene. We again used a medium shot, to show me consoling Maya.

Me and Enshell then done the same scenario, but with slightly different shots. We chose to show mine and Maya's Scene.

Rule of Third

The rule of third is the positioning of a subject in a shot. The focus point of the shot, normally is where the crossing of 2 lines are. The top line is usually where the eyes are positioned.
